ScaleScan App Privacy

Your Data StaysOn Your Device

ScaleScan works on-device by default and requires no account. Your information only leaves the app when you choose a setting that sends it — following industry-accepted best practices and global privacy regulations.

Our Privacy Principles

A few simple commitments guide everything ScaleScan does with your data.

On-Device by Default

ScaleScan processes and stores your data on your device. Nothing leaves the app through ScaleScan unless you actively choose an in-app setting that sends it elsewhere. Anything handled by Apple — such as iCloud backup of the app's storage, or weight data written to or read from Apple Health if you permit it — is controlled by your Apple device settings and handled in accordance with Apple's own data and privacy policies, not by ScaleScan.

No Account Needed

ScaleScan does not require and does not use an account. There is no sign-up, no login, and no profile — you can simply open the app and start using it.

You Control Sharing

Any data that leaves your device through ScaleScan is the result of a choice you make. In-app sharing and syncing features are opt-in and clearly labeled, and you can turn them off at any time. Data managed by Apple, such as iCloud backup or Apple Health, is governed by the permissions and choices you make in your Apple device settings and by Apple's data policies.

No Selling, No Surprises

We never sell your personal data. We are transparent about what the app does with your information, and we tell you when anything changes.

What Data ScaleScan Handles

In normal use this data stays on your device. It only leaves when you enable a setting that sends it.

Scan Content (Stays on Your Device)

The content and results you generate while scanning are stored locally on your device by default. This data is not transmitted off your device by ScaleScan unless you enable a setting — such as sync, backup, or sharing — that does so. If you have enabled iCloud backup on your device, Apple may include the app's local storage in that backup under your Apple device settings and Apple's data policies.

Apple Health (Only With Your Permission)

If you grant permission, ScaleScan can write your weight to Apple Health or read it from there. This is entirely optional and off unless you enable it. Any data in Apple Health is stored and managed by Apple on your device under your Apple Health permissions and Apple's data policies — you can revoke ScaleScan's access at any time in your Apple device settings.

App Settings & Preferences

Your in-app preferences are saved locally so the app behaves the way you expect. These settings remain on your device unless you explicitly enable a feature that stores or syncs them elsewhere.

Device & Technical Data

Device model, operating system version, and app version may be used locally to keep the app running correctly. Diagnostic or crash information is only sent off the device if you opt in to sharing it.

Optional Media Permissions

Camera and photo library access are requested only when you actively use a scanning feature, and are used solely to perform the scan you initiate. Access is never enabled silently in the background.

1. On-Device by Default

ScaleScan is designed to work on your device. By default, the data you create and the processing the app performs stay on your device and within the app. ScaleScan only sends data off the device or out of the app if you choose settings that do that — for example, if you enable syncing, backup, sharing, or optional diagnostics.

This means you remain in control. Unless you turn on a feature that transmits data, your information is not uploaded to us or to any third party.

Separately from the app, your device's operating system may manage the app's data — for example, Apple's iCloud backup, or Apple Health if you have permitted ScaleScan to write your weight to it or read it from there. Any such data is managed by Apple according to the permissions and choices you make in your Apple device settings and is subject to Apple's device and data privacy policies rather than this policy. You can review, change, or revoke these options at any time in your device settings.

2. No Account Required or Used

ScaleScan does not require you to create an account, and it does not use one. There is no registration, no username or password, and no user profile associated with the app.

Because there is no account, we do not collect account credentials, and there is no server-side identity linked to your use of the app.

3. Information the App Handles

ScaleScan is built around data minimization. The categories of data the app handles are summarized above. In normal use, this information is stored and processed locally on your device.

ScaleScan helps you record and track your weight, which is health-related information. We treat this as sensitive data: by default it stays on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party unless you choose a setting that sends it. ScaleScan does not require any other sensitive personal information — such as financial or biometric identifiers — to use its core functionality, and does not collect such information unless a specific feature clearly requests it and you consent.

4. How Information Is Used

Information handled by ScaleScan is used to provide the features you request, to keep the app running reliably, and to perform the scans and tasks you initiate. When processing happens on your device, that information is not visible to us.

If you choose to enable a feature that sends data off the device, that data is used only to deliver the feature you turned on — such as syncing your content across devices, backing it up, sharing it, or helping us diagnose crashes. We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not sell your personal data.

5. How Your Data Is Protected

Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security controls, including its operating system protections and any passcode or biometric lock you use. Where that data is held by Apple — for example in an iCloud backup or in Apple Health — it is protected by Apple's security measures in accordance with your Apple device settings and Apple's data policies.

When you enable a feature that transmits data, that data is encrypted in transit using TLS and, where stored by a service provider, encrypted at rest using strong, modern encryption standards. While no method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, we apply industry-accepted safeguards to protect any data that does leave your device.

6. Data Sharing & Third Parties

Because ScaleScan works on-device by default, we do not share your content with third parties in normal use. Sharing only occurs when you enable an optional feature that involves a service provider — such as cloud backup, sync, or crash reporting.

Where such providers are used, they are bound by contractual obligations to protect your data and to use it only for the services they perform on our behalf. We may disclose information only if required to do so by law, to comply with a valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.

Apple is not a third party acting on our behalf. Where Apple handles data — for example through iCloud backup, Apple Health, or the App Store — it does so as the provider of your device and platform, according to your Apple device settings and Apple's own privacy policy.

7. Data Retention

Data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it within the app or remove the app. You are in control of local data at all times. If your device has backed that data up to iCloud, or you have written weight entries to Apple Health, its retention and deletion are managed by Apple through your Apple device, iCloud, and Apple Health settings in accordance with Apple's data policies. Removing ScaleScan does not automatically delete entries already saved in Apple Health.

For any data you have chosen to send off the device, we retain it only as long as necessary to provide the feature you enabled and to meet our legal obligations, after which it is securely deleted or anonymized.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under regulations such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. These may include the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data.

For data held on your device, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting it within the app. For any data you have chosen to sync or share off the device, contact us using the details below and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. For data held by Apple, such as an iCloud backup or entries in Apple Health, you can view, manage, or delete it through the Apple Health app, your Apple device settings, or Apple's own privacy tools. We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

9. Children's Privacy

ScaleScan is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice within the app.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how ScaleScan protects your information.
